“Are you a person of integrity?” What stirs within you? Is it a confident affirmation? Or a hesitant pause? This question delves beyond surface appearances, demanding an honest appraisal of our inner selves.
But what, in essence, is integrity? Is it a birthright or a virtue forged through deliberate action?
Scripture illuminates its essence:
It’s the unwavering commitment to righteousness, irrespective of circumstance.
It’s the bedrock of honesty, built upon unyielding values.
It’s the sacred keeping of one’s word, anchored in moral principles.
It’s the embodiment of trustworthiness, fairness, responsibility, and compassion.

Solomon, in Proverbs 10:9, assures us, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely.” David, in Psalm 15:1-3, paints a portrait of those who dwell in God’s presence: those who “walk with integrity, who do what is right, and speak truth in his heart.” Paul, in 2 Corinthians 8:21, emphasizes the importance of integrity before both God and man.
A life of integrity is vital for the believer, for it is the fertile ground from which the fruit of the Spirit blossoms: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It’s a conscious, deliberate choice, a daily commitment.
How do we cultivate this integrity?
